These are my newest paintings, portraits of Turkish women. I'm really loving the little princess/girly collages around and on the faces. I'm thinking about how young girls, all over the world, now grow up with these kinds of role models. Rather than seeing them as negative, I think of them/us/me as protectors and shamans to grown women.

My idea about public art is that it should be interactive, especially for children. I want kids to be thrilled with sculpture they can touch, climb on and have fun on. This work was created for the International Terracotta Symposium in Eskisehir, Turkey. It's about the relationship between the U.S. and Turkey at the start of the Iraq War.

Urban Tree installed on the Embarcadero for the Port of San Diego, created with Terri Hughes-Oelrich. Each piece has text carved in it, as if the tree could talk. We encouraged viewers to carve their own words in the wood. To be installed in 2008 at the Rancho Del Rey Library in Chula Vista.

The Wrestlers (stills), 2006

This video is three minutes long and has a sound track of a choral piece by Veljo Tormis plus sound effects. Each frame was hand-collaged. A "moving painting" about war, it references the story of Cain and Able and Chinese martial arts movies.
